Current Job

In 2023, I founded Expert Inside, a Marketing Consultancy dedicated to helping start-ups and small-to-medium businesses and charities. Lots of people were saying to me that they didn’t know where to start with marketing, and felt overwhelmed by the information and options. I knew I could help them find a way through the maze and decided to go for it. I’ve learnt first-hand how much hard work goes into starting your own business, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see my clients growing, and to hear people say that marketing is making sense to them!

Life after Owen’s

At school I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career, but I did want to move away from home and liked the idea of going to University! I chose to study German and Business (at Sheffield Uni) as these were my ‘least worst’ subjects and I’d have the chance to spend a year overseas. Ultimately this opened the door to a European Graduate Programme that included a lot of travel, the chance to live in Amsterdam and Vienna, and my first job in Marketing.

How have your choices lead you to where you are now?

I’ve always tried to say yes to new things, and one of the things I said yes to during my degree was taking a Dutch language module – admittedly this decision was based largely on the free trip to Amsterdam! In turn, I fell in love with the city and made it my mission to live there after graduation. That led to my first job, and ultimately my career, in marketing. I also met my husband there – more reason to love that city ❤

What skills or attributes did Owen’s inspire in you?

I’m going to say independence for this one. In such a big school you have to be able to find your own way and stick up for yourself. There was encouragement to work hard, try different subjects and do your best – but ultimately you had to choose to do that yourself.

A pearl or two of wisdom to offer our current students?

Take every opportunity you get to try new things – sports, travel, clubs, meeting new people, anything where you will get a new experience. You never know who you might meet or what you’ll fall in love with.

Favourite Owen’s memory?

I’d love this to be a proud educational moment but honestly it has to be receiving ‘beer money’ from the Worshipful Company of Brewers! People still don’t believe me when I tell them about this tradition. Our school has such a peculiar and wonderful history.
