DAME ALICE OWEN'S SCHOOL:
www.damealiceowens.herts.sch.uk
As the large majority of you will know, Owen’s School was founded by Dame Alice Owen, the wife of a brewer, in Islington in 1613, and its connection to both the London Borough and The Worshipful Company of Brewers still remains today.
Since its move to the current site in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, Dame Alice Owen’s has a long-standing reputation for being one of the country's best schools, and just last year in 2020, The Sunday Times named it ‘State School of The Decade (South East).'
Many Owen’s Alumni and associates of the school are highly successful and well connected individuals within their chosen profession, and some are even household names in the worlds of sport, literature, medicine, law and the arts, including Sir Alan Parker, Jodie Williams, Kacey Clarke and, of course, members of legendary 80s pop band, Spandau Ballet.
Today, the school offers many opportunities for past pupils to network, progress in their careers and give back, through its alumni association and the soon to launch Owen's Members Club, managed by Class of 2001 Owenian, Anna Welsford (nee Breeze.)
OLD OWEN'S SPORTS GROUND & ASSOCIATION:
When Dame Alice Owen's School was still in Islington, the associated 'Old Owen’s Sports Ground' occupied a site in Chandos Avenue, Whetstone, London, N20.
Set up by a group of past Owen's pupils, the Old Owen’s Association (OOA) was originally established to provide ALL past Owenians with social and sports facilities to use and enjoy.
Then, after the school moved to Potters Bar, Old Owen’s Association's ground moved to its current site on Coopers Lane, Potters Bar, Herts, and it has been the home of OO Football Club and OO Cricket Club, as well as other community sports teams, including Potters Bar Utd. (youth football club) ever since.
On 16th June 2014, following a huge amount of hard work undertaken by the school's leadership and OOA Directors, Old Owen’s Association was incorporated as a Charitable company and gained registered Charitable Status (no. 1159777) on the 5th January 2015 under the new name: Old Owen’s Association and Sports Club Limited (OOASC Limited).
Today, the ground is open to the local community as well as full and associate members (who pay an annual subscirption). Regular users of the ground and clubhouse are required to join as a member of OOA or the soon to launch Owen's Members Club and can do so for a nominal annual fee (£24.00 p.a.) by contacting Anna Welsford via Whatsapp on: 07739962150.
Benefits of becoming an OOA member, other than use of the club's facilities, include 10% off all drinks from the bar, discounted Owenians Yoga classes and VIP access to our fantastic sporting and social events.
